can dogs feel emotionsCan dogs feel emotions akin to love?

I ask this because I am unsure if dogs can feel emotions akin to love towards their fellow human because some girl on Y!A says that dogs see us as the alpha, and they come to us when they are called and give us kisses only because they want us to continue feeding them. So, is what the girl said true? Do they just behave like this because they want to continue being fed? Or is there a bit more to it than just the feeding? Can they feel emotions AKIN to love?
A dog thinks, behaves and perceives the world around it like the species, but that is not to say that a dog is such a simple creature that it cannot form a strong attachment to a human, driven by pack instinct and the extent to which its individual characters/traits clicks with its owners. In my opinion a dog’s strong attachment/bond to a human is a kind of love.

I disagree with the opinion, for that is all it is, that a dog will form the same strength of bond with any human that provides it with shelter, food and water.

However, that is not to suggest that I believe a dog has the same capacity for complex thought processes, emotion and rational decision making to make a conscious decision to love a human because of the qualities tcan dogs feel emotionshey admire and despite their flaws, because it is does not. This ties in to the simple fact it is a different species and one that I have had and continue to enjoy strong bonds with.
For the 1000 time, NO, they cannot. Dogs are instinctual animals that live here and now. They are interested in food and security. Your dog can be mine next week if I feed it, how do you think dog sales work? Of course the delusional ones in here will tell you about love and kisses when in actuality, dogs have no idea what a kiss is, they are either trying to get you to regurgitate or appease you if they feel uneasy...they are animals, think of them as such and you will feel better. Hope I helped.

ADD: And here is Rescue Member once again, spreading her wisdom...comparing kids to dogs, HUMANS to an ANIMAL with no frontal lobe. Dear, a HUMAN child can comprehend spoken language and can communicate in a language that is common among humans, a dumb animal cannot. You are humanizing again, stop spreading misinformation on YA, there are enough idiots in here. Now go take your meds and get ready for Christmas...Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
"Some girl on yahoo" obviously gets all her theories on dogs from scan dogs feel emotionsome t.v. actor named Milan and not from actual experience with her own dogs. That "alpha" nonsense applied to wolves, it was never applicable to dogs who are so different from anything in the wild thanks to hundreds, if not thousands, of years of selective breeding, that they bear no resemblance to anything in the wild.

Dogs do indeed bond with people and love them pretty unconditionally, which is why they make such ideal companion animals.

Saying that dogs only love you because you feed them is like saying your little kids only love you because you feed them - it's a lot more complicated than that.

There are people who see dogs only as something they can dominate and give orders to, I imagine that's necessary for some type of attack or schutz dogs, but it sure isn't the norm for our pets, no matter how many times this guy says it and makes fun of anyone who actually bonds with a pet.
To each his own --- doesn't make one very narrow view of dogs right.
I pity anyone who hasn't felt the unconditional love and bond from a dog, it's pretty great and trashing that bond as weak or simple minded doesn't change a thing - or bother me a bit.
